Life Surfing Project
Discover the Life Surfing project for the elimination of lindane.
LIFE SURFING PROJECT
Background
Sabiñánigo is a town that has a long industrial tradition. Between 1975 and 1988 a local pesticide factory produced lindane for almost 20-years.
According to data from the CNRCOP, Inquinosa produced around 900 lindane tonnes per year. Each tone of lindane generated 8 tonnes of non-commercial isomers, so that the factory activity generated around 7200 tonnes of waste per year.

LIFE SURFING PROJECT
Main features
The project aims to demonstrate the field feasibility of a soil remediation technique for soils containing Dense Non-aqueous Phase Liquids (DNAPL) composed by a multicomponent mixture of organic contaminants and Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). To achieve that, well known oxidation techniques will be combined with the action of surfactants..

What is the test about
During the course of the work, different reactive and surfactants are foreseen to be tested in 2019 at laboratory level to complete the definition of the field test. Field works will start in 2020. In 2021, the field tests will finish and a large scale test will be carried out in laboratory to analyse the transferability to other ground conditions.
